Description

Discussion 1(a) There are multiple ways social workers intervene with clients in order to help them improve overall well-being. This week, your readings provided several intervention strategies for different populations.

To prepare: Choose one of the readings, and focus on the intervention strategy.

Post:

  • Explain the intervention strategy used in your chosen article.
  • Explain whether the strategy was successful.
  • Describe what you have learned about intervention from working with your client population. What are some strategies that work with your client group?
  • Identify at least one ethical consideration that you need to be aware of when utilizing their identified strategy
  • Discussion 1(b) You have learned throughout your coursework that social work practice is based on evidence. This evidence comes from research. Evaluating the effectiveness of social work services is essential to meeting client needs. Evaluation is the activity of examining program input, processes, output, or outcomes. For example, your agency may have a program to help “at-risk” teenagers minimize the risk of substance abuse. To evaluate the effectiveness of the program, your agency may use several research methods to understand the how effective this intervention is for clients. This is the evaluation process. This week’s reading focused on one study to evaluate the effectiveness of social work practices. To prepare: Consider a program that is offered by your agency. Then, discuss with your supervisor how the agency evaluates the effectiveness of the program.
    Post:
    • Describe the program that is offered by your agency.
    • Explain how the agency evaluates the effectiveness of the program.
      • Be specific about the evaluation process used, the lack of evaluation processes, any plans for evaluating the program, etc.
    • Explain which research approach would be best to evaluate the program.
    • Utilizing the NASW Code of Ethics, research approach to program evaluation.
    • Explain how the code’s necessary components of research and evaluation applies’
