Description
Identify a friend or family member to talk with (through email/text). Share with this individual that you are taking a class on motivation and that the focus this week is on self-determination theory. Ask them to identify an area where they would like to have more motivation (e.g., getting to bed early enough, completing class assignments on time). Generate an email/letter response that describes the basic parts of self-determination theory and outlines a plan with specific examples or conditions for how they might be able to enhance their competency, autonomy, and relatedness. Be sure that the email/letter contains: a) a description of what they are trying to increase motivation on, b) a basic description of self-determination theory, and c) three to six specific examples of conditions that they can implement to enhance their motivation, with at least one example aligned with competency, one with autonomy, and one with relatedness. The email/letter response should be 300-400 words.
Note: You may reference course materials in your letters, but you must use quotes and reference the author of the reference you are citing. You do not need to create a reference page, but you do need to acknowledge who said what you’re quoting.
For example, you can write something like this: Ed Deci says that “when your motivation is controlled, you tend to take the shortest path to the desired outcome” (TED, 2012, 5:16).
