QUESTION 1
Effective Teams
BSN-prepared nurses are leaders. As a leader you will be asked to be a part of multiple types of teams, perhaps even lead those teams. I am certain you have seen examples of effective teams and those that seemed entirely dysfunctional. There are many ways to assist your team to function collaboratively and be productive. Keep in mind that this does not mean everything will always run smoothly and without conflict. It means you know how to lead past those barriers, keeping the end goal in mind. You might also get ideas about how to effectively lead a team from any one of the 10 TED Talks that are listed in the resource under “Watch this Video” here in this week’s lesson.
Critique a team meeting that you have attended recently.
Include the following in your discussion:
- Using the best practices you have learned about effective teams, reflect on how well the team functioned. These questions are some that you can use to get started – use your readings to find more items to critique:
- Was it an effective team? Why or why not?
- What kind of roles did the members play?
- What kind of communication strategies did the members use? >Was the leader of the group effective in his/her leadership role?
- Search the Grantham library database to find two recent, scholarly journal articles about effective teams. Use your textbook as a third resource.
- Present your information in a 3-5-page paper (not including the title page or reference page) in APA format with citations.
- QUESTION 2. Using the links provided: The ANA/AONE Principles for Collaborative Relationships between Clinical Nurses and Nurse Managers (PDF) outline the principles of collaborative relationships: effective communication, authentic relationships, learning environment, and culture.
- ANA/AONE (2016). Principles for collaborative relationships between clinical nurses and nurse managers. Retrieved from: https://www.nursingworld.org/~4af4f2/globalassets/docs/ana/ethics/principles-of-collaborative-relationships.pdf
- Utilize the information in Chapters 1 and 12 and Principles for Collaborative Relationships between Clinical Nurses and Nurse Managers to assist you in developing your post. Approach the discussion as if you were a nurse leader. Propose how you would implement effective strategies for communication. Include the following in your discussion:
- Include one scholarly research article from the library database to provide EBP support for your proposed communication strategies.
- Address each section under Implementation Guidelines from the ANA/AONE that is identified in the lecture.
- Discuss with peers what steps you feel will be most effective.
