Description
RESEARCH PROJECT: REVISIONS AND SUMMARY ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
OVERVIEW
While many courses require research papers where you receive feedback from your instructors,
very few courses provide the opportunity to practice true revision by applying revision
techniques and implementing instructor feedback. The purpose of this assignment is to provide
you with an opportunity to reexamine your argument, organization, research, and writing style
and to make adjustments as needed. Additionally, this assignment provides you with an
opportunity to critically examine and apply the instructor’s feedback to your writing. The
measure of success for this assignment will be a strong implementation of revision methods and
summary of revisions that demonstrates thoughtful and thorough application of instructor
feedback and knowledge of revision principles as described in the course. Both the act of
revision and reflection help to solidify your learning process in this course so that you move on
to future studies with a stronger foundation for research and writing.
INSTRUCTIONS
Using the comments from the instructor and the principles of revision instructed in the course,
revise your paper and resubmit it along with a summary of the revisions.
As you revise, remember to consider both components of revision as described in the
course presentations: editing and polishing. This focus should improve the argumentation
and organization (content) as well as the style, mechanics, and format (form).
Use the Track Changes feature in MS Word to show the changes that you made within
the document.
Apply comments and corrections offered by the instructor as you revise.
The summary of revision should answer the following questions in 200–250 words:
o What was the primary focus of the revision process in your paper?
o How did you identify the primary foucs?
o Did you apply any particular methods for revision (e.g., reading the paper aloud
or backwards or executing a reverse outline)?
o Were there any instructor comments or other areas of the paper that you chose not
to address? If so, why did you omit those? How could you have addressed them?
o What effect did the revisions have on your paper from your perspective?
The summary should be included in the Word document after the Bibliography page.
