The focus of this paper is to provide a critical appraisal of the article “Exploration of Nurses’ Knowledge, Attitudes, and Perceived Barriers towards Medication Error Reporting in a Tertiary Health Care Facility: A Qualitative Approach.” The article explores the knowledge of nurses on medical error reporting by focusing on their reporting attitudes and the existing barriers. This is a relevant topic in the modern times owing to the fact that there has been an increase in medical error cases in hospitals. The study questions in the article are relevant and are connected to the theories developed by the authors. The study adequately addresses the real problem and has achieved the set objectives.

The findings of the study provide deeper insights into the attitudes and knowledge of Malaysian nurses on the MER process and ME concept. The findings are significant and also precise to the four research questions of the study. The study carried out in the article has certain strengths and limitations. One of the strengths is on the knowledge of the study participants. The data used was collected from a number of nurses that practice in various units in hospitals. Firsthand information from the participants was therefore collected and used to answer the research questions. The second strength is in the study design. The researchers used in-depth interviews to provide a complete picture of the current state of medical error reporting.

Through the in-depth interviews, the researchers easily determined that the main issue in medical errors reporting is time. Medical error reporting was deemed to be a time-consuming process by the nurses. Although the study achieved the set objectives, it is characterized by certain drawbacks. The main drawback of the study is that the results of the study cannot be verified. The nurses had control over the specific content collected on the topic. In addition, there was no inclusion or exclusion criteria adopted in the study which could have excluded participants without knowledge on the topic. Therefore, the results cannot be objectively verified against the scenarios presented.

Another drawback of the study is that there is no statistical representation which means that the results could be biased. The data collected was not cross referenced with quantitative data to ensure validity. Therefore, there is no stronger database of information available in the study. With respect to the drawbacks, the researchers should have used observant participant method in addition to interviews. This method ensures validity of results such that there is a comparison of what the participants are saying and what they are doing.

I think that this article contained some great information. This article is very lengthy and says some great things that I agree with. I think that the title matched what the article was about and the introduction told me very clearly what was going to be said in the rest of the document. I enjoyed reading this article because of the great points that this article makes. This article has a main purpose of medications. This study also has many good participants and the study also told the interviewees everything that they needed to know to participate. I think that this study was very well conducted because the participants were given a very fair chance to participate. I also think that the participants gave very great and truthful answers. I really think that when the nurses said that they face embarrassment, it is very heartfelt. I think that with them opening up to their true feelings and being embarrassed, it made the point of this study much stronger. I feel like in this situation, I would also be extremely embarrassed to have to admit an error to a patient’s family and friends. Overall, I think that this study contains a lot of great information. I think that the nurses that were interviewed provided a lot of very truthful answers. I enjoyed reading this study, and overall, I think that the study was great.
