Description

Fred is a 45-year-old broker at a well-known bank, husband, and father of four children. He is inundated with work and frequently works 13-14 hours a day, as well as often bringing his work home during the weekends. Indeed, much of his life is spent on his work. His wife often complains that he is more interested in work than he is in her and the children. Fred has very bad insomnia, often forgets to eat, is often irritated by small inconveniences, wishes he spent more time with his family and is frequently sad, and has been diagnosed as having an ulcer.

How would you describe Fred? Is he abnormal? Does he have a mental disorder? Does he need psychological treatment? Explain your response.

How, if at all, would your perceptions change if you knew that Fred’s superior forced him to work this hard? What if you found out that in his corporate culture, brokers were supposed to be relaxed about coming to work? If your opinions might change, what does this mean for you in terms of the importance of situational factors and culture in evaluating Fred’s behavior?

In response to your peers, discuss your thoughts about their perceptions of Fred. In-text citations and at least 2 scholary references APA 7th edition
