Activity 4: The Future of al-Qaeda and the Islamic State (100 points)

Your textbook takes a somewhat different position from the Brookings Institute article on the future of jihadists operating in the Middle East. After you have read Chapters 10 and 11, and the outside assigned readings, locate five (5) additional journal articles that have been published within the last five calendar years. Locate articles that discuss the infighting between al-Qaeda and the Islamic State and the likely future of both groups. Take notes from your review, and from those notes develop a paper that discusses these issues, as well as the role the United States and its allies should take to combat these terrorist groups. Make certain to justify your position with facts and references from your article review notes. Make certain too that you cite the five (5) articles in the paper and include them in your bibliography.

Your Activity responses should be both grammatically and mechanically correct, and formatted in the same fashion as the Activity itself. If there is a Part A, your response should identify a Part A, etc. In addition, you must appropriately cite all resources used in your response and document in a bibliography using APA style. (100 points) (A 4-page response is required.)
