This film takes place in Senegal after it has already gained its independence from France in 1959, however we are shown the reality of how the French elite status quo still maintains a firm grip over its former African subjects. How does Black Girl’s (English name) main protagonist’s inability to voice her opinions and her powerlessness against her oppression eventually lead to her committing suicide?
