Description

How did Alexander the Great’s conquests change the ancient world? What policies helped Alexander conquer such a vast empire? Why do you think he failed to designate an adequate successor?

HOW TO FORMAT AND CITE DISCUSSION:

Be sure to cite all information that is not your own (including the text).

ALL posts MUST include at least ONE QUOTED primary source

document for support. Meaning that you must quote A SENTENCE (15-20

words) from the source and incorporate it into your post. You may use as

many primary source documents as you like. If you fail to incorporate a quoted

primary source document then you will lose 50% of the total points possible

for the post.

ALL information (meaning your thoughts, analysis, etc.) provided in a post or

response that is NOT your own MUST be cited in Chicago/Turabian style

format. The citations should be listed at the very bottom of your post and

response. For example, let’s pretend the following is a post:

Common courtesy and appropriate behavior in everyday life is referred to as etiquette.

Appropriate behavior online is known as Netiquette. The key to netiquette is to remember that

the people with whom you are communicating cannot see you, read your body language or

hear the tone of your voice (1). No one can tell if you are smiling, scowling or just joking.

Therefore, it is important to be professional and courteous when communicating online.

Using proper Chicago/Turabian format for citing a website without an access

date should read:

1.“Using Proper Netiquette,” Distance Learning and Outreach,

https://www.uc.edu/distance/Student_Orientation/Keys_to_Success/using-proper-

netiquette.html.

The above citation should be listed at the very bottom of the post or response.

The next citation number “2” would follow below number “1” and so on. The

most important item in the citation above is the URL or access point. Without

an access point a reader cannot verify information for the source (primary or

secondary). If you fail to properly provide an access point (i.e. URL) for any

online primary or secondary source then you will not be given any credit.

Please cite well. The example given is a simple format but one that is

appropriate for online discussions. It is very important to know how to cite

material for this course because I will be assessing your ability to cite sources

using the proper citation format (Chicago/Turabian) for this course.

Be sure to cite all information that is not your own (including the text).

You may use as many primary source documents as you like. Don’t forget to cite all primary sources.

THE BOOK IS CALLED

• Western Civilizations, Brief Fifth Edition, Volume One

PLEASE MAKE SURE ALL CITATIONS ARE IN PROPER CHICAGO TURBIAN STYLE AND YOU ONLY USE PRIMARY SOURCES

I WILL PROVIDE AN EXAMPLE OF HOW MY TEACHER WANTS CITATIONS TO BE FORMATTED:

Here is how the subscripts in the body should look. For example, this sentence needs a (1) at the end…

“…the king, the offering of whose sacrifices the great gods love . . . their unsparing weapons they have presented him as a royal gift . . . [he] who has brought all the lands in submission at his feet, who has imposed tribute and tax upon them….”(1) .

The (1) then corresponds to a citation listed at the bottom which has a 1 placed at the beginning of the citation. So the first citation should look like…

1. Joshua Cole and Carol Symes, Western Civilizations: Their History & Their Culture (New York: W.W. Norton, 2020), 72.

all citations after the first, for the text, is…Cole and Symes, Western Civilizations, 73. Page number will of course change

Each cited sentence must have its own subscript followed by its own citation

Likewise for your responses and you do not need a bibliography. We are working in notation not bibliography.
