Description
This resource shows how to set up an essay. Essays contain five paragraphs. Each paragraph should contain a minimum of 4 sentences. The first paragraph is the introduction (with your thesis statement), the second paragraph is focused on the first topic, the third paragraph is focused on the second topic, the fourth paragraph is focused on the third topic and the fifth paragraph is the conclusion.
In the first paragraph, you introduce the reader to what your essay is about. When you choose a topic you are to pick three aspects of the topic. For example, let’s use the ocean as a topic. For this essay, I will pick three aspects of the ocean to talk about. The three are the size of the ocean, the pollution in the ocean, and the color of the ocean water.
The thesis statement is produced once you have determined your topic and the three aspects of you topic to discuss in the essay. In the example above the thesis statement would flow like this:
Oceans of the earth are great in size, contain large amounts of pollution and have water that gives offa unique color.
The introduction paragraph should contain information about the topic and the thesis statement.
The conclusion restates the three aspects and has your view point about your topic.
