State the name of your company and its key products or services
Hi Team! My name is Jennifer, and I currently work for Strayer University and their CIS101 course. My husband and I have three kids, who are 11, 9, and 7. We are pretty busy with football, club soccer, and cheerleading, but they love it and are a lot of fun to watch! I earned my Doctorate in Education several years ago and then continued my education with a graduate certificate from The Citadel in Higher Education Leadership. I love learning and returned to school to earn my MBA.
What sector or industry does your company operate in?
Strayer University is part of Strategic Education Inc., and Strayer University serves the field of higher education, specifically online education. Winick (2021) shared that by 2025 the online education industry will reach $350 billion. The average age noted by Strayer University (2022) is 36, with 90% enrolled part-time. While economics is critical to organizations, my experience is limited. However, I am excited to work with you this term and look forward to learning from you.
Pick one of these drivers your company has tried to use for growth (innovation, investment, increased productivity, and constant renewal.) Describe clearly how this driver was enacted at your company? Did the use of this driver lead to economic growth? Why or why not?
The four key drivers of economic growth are critical to organizations. However, I have found that innovation is the key driver for Strayer University’s economic growth. Strayer University demonstrates this driver through several elements. For example, Civitas Learning (2022) explained that the retention-based Graduation Fund addresses college affordability and is the first employer-based free college degree program to improve workforce readiness. Winick (2021) noted that AI innovation aids Strayer’s virtual education success. For example, Winick (2021) shared that Strayer University built Irving, their virtual assistant on Google Cloud, which handles complex student requests and integrates with Strayer’s IT system. Salter (2016) explained that people tend to think of economics as a way to understand the economy, but it is a way to understand markets. In this instance, Strayer University’s innovation demonstrates its understanding of the market for higher education. Personally, I believe Strayer University leads economic growth with innovation and I feel other universities will follow in Strayer’s footsteps.
