1.You are sitting in on your first weekly meeting at a new job. You are the least experienced associate in the meeting. A senior-level associate has been dominating the conversation, but you would like to interject to make a point that would be valuable to the discussion. What cues would the speaker use to maintain his or her role of speaker? What cues might you use to indicate you would like to assume the speaker’s turn? Describe how the process of turn-taking varies in informal and professional situations. That is, how would turn-taking differ at work from the family dinner table, a discussion of friends hanging out, or in a college classroom?
2.Create a list of three controversial topics and discuss differing perspectives of those who are for or against the topic.
For example:
Assisted Suicide
- For: People should not be forced to live in pain.
- Against: In some cases, people have recovered from very serious conditions after they were told were going to die
3. What stage of human development are you in currently and what are your main challenges/activities? Reflecting on Erikson’s theory of psychosocial development, which stage do you find yourself in? How will you successfully resolve the conflict that is the hallmark of that stage? What would you consider the best time of life? Why?
